The reporter has reported on sports for major outlets around the globe. She was a reporter for The Washington Post nearly a decade and covered Grand Slam Tennis and Grand Slam Football as well playing basketball in multiple Olympics. In 2004, Nichols moved on to ESPN for nine years during which she was awarded 2 Emmy Awards and appeared on many of the network's most frequented shows such as SportsCenter and NFL Countdown. The Monday Night Football coverage as the team's reporter was an integral an integral part of her job at the network. Then, she switched onto CNN Sports and Turner. The show she first created and hosted was named self-titled Unguarded featuring Rachel Nichols, and aired every week on CNN and CNN International. The show had more than one billion viewers throughout the world. During this time Nichols was a reporter for TNT's NBA broadcasts, including the regular season, playoffs and All-Star broadcast teams. Also, she reported for TBS broadcasting golf and baseball broadcasts, and Final Four broadcasts on CBS. marking only the second occasion in the award's 42 year record that a woman is nominated amongst the more than 200 candidates.
